Fluorescent lamp tube is relying on the mercury atoms through the process of releasing gas discharge UV (Mainly wavelength 253.7nm). Electricity consumed by about 60% can be converted to ultraviolet light. Other energy is converted to heat. The inner surface of the fluorescent lamp through the material after the release of visible light absorption of ultraviolet light. Different materials will be issued by a different fluorescent visible light. The general efficiency of UV light into visible light is about 40%. Therefore, the efficiency of fluorescent lamps is about 60% * 40% = 24% --- About the same power tungsten filament lamp two times the luminous efficiency.
